Description

Lug is a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology community group that aims to educate the J.K.U.A.T. community about technology with an emphasis on the opensource community. Due to the constraints of opensource technologies, this led us to create Lug Kenya. Lug is a registered youth faction under the minister of gender and youth amid a policy to use local expertise and resources to build a network of ICT hubs in all counties in Kenya. The faction lays tremendous prominence in training of ICT skill to the youth, women’s groups and correction centers as it extend capacity building. At Lug we deem to encompass the ability to make what already exist better to satisfy the growing need and demand for technological know-how within the country and build our own future.

Thika Prisons Project

The gap between those who have and those who do not have basic computer skills or access to ICT (information and communication technology) is widening. To reverse this trend, JLUG inconjuction with Thika Prisons have undertaken a Project to teach Wardens and inmate basic computer skills.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
• To promote and facilitate access to information through the internet to the intended beneficiaries.
• To provide training in computer skills and literacy to the target beneficiaries.

BENEFICIARIES
The main beneficiaries of the project shall be:
• New recruits into the Prisons Service.
• Officers of the prison service in general.
• Inmates of the prisons.

This year's project is scheduled to begin in a week's time and we are currently finalising the creation of the teaching timetable.
